Berg build
Re: Berg build
Nice work Stu. Those start stop switches were notorious for failing. I changed them out for a Tight tracks start button and used the stop switch on the other side of the handle bar

Re: Berg build
I'm a bit late to the party here, I am thinking of doing something similar, want to get an old 2 stroke and breath some new life into it.
Where would you guys go looking for a nice cheap one, that can be saved? Looking at market place, these people want to charge the price of a new bike for something that does not even have a running engine

Too vague Dope imho.
How old is too ancient?
What budget is overall?
To-be registered, or not?
300cc. Smaller or larger?
I'd likely seek Husky/KTM 300.
I'd expect to pay 4k, to begin.
Good KDX200 maybe; is rare.
I'm not on FB. Check Gumtree.
Eye bike; cart away when pay.

Re: Berg build
Been looking at the KTM 300, the first ones that had electric start, 2008 or there about, but majority of them that I have seen either have a blown engine or completely rusted to pieces and then people want like $3k for them.
I would say $3k for one that at least runs would be my budget, as I would likely need to spend another 3k to get it into decent shape, because we all know the line of 'Filter cleaned after each ride'
Rec reg would be nice, but that is something I can sort out if its not already done.
I dont mind getting a busted bike, I can rebuild it myself, but then I wont be paying more than 2k, at most
Been watching FB and Scumtree for the last month or so, just thought there might be some other avenue I dont know about

Re: Berg build
Wrote post-above b4 I read your stats.
Not-ridden a KDX200, liked & regarded.
Edit: Please bow-in folk; how's KDX200?
Edit2: I've owned 360 & 430 smokers.
A modern 300 may well do it for me.
There's pleasure in wringing it's neck.

Oh hairy one, you poetry is splendid.
Yes indeed the kdx 200 gets me firm!
I bought one for 1000 dollars.
Most fun you can have with your pants off.
A good donor/builder will set you back 3 or 4 thousand. The Berg cost about 6500 in total.
Heaps good in the tight stuff, as all who ride it agree.
