Berg build

Post by Stu1985pants »

Just a few words and pics of my Berg.
Bought it from a bloke in East Gippsland at a good price, but like any second hand bike, it's due for a freshen up.
I'll keep the report short and sweet.

Stripped the bike completely, found that a lot of the bolts had been changed or lost. So onto the interweb and go nuts. New bolt kit, new plastics, new custom sticker kit. Pulled the top end down and checked it all out. No significant play in the rod, so fresh piston and rings, bearing and pin, clips, gaskets...

Send the shock and forks over to Chad's for some love. Lucky for me, the spring rate suited my weight. New seals and oil and a bit of Chad's magic and we're good to go. Brand new fmf fatty pipe, wide pegs, gear lever, brake pedal, sprocket and case saver.

Ran the map switch option up to the bars so I can switch it on the run. Should be good for those snotty hills. Bought and fitted front and rear brake switch as the originals were missing. Sorted out a whole bunch of wiring issues. Pulled the dicky starter off, stripped, cleaned and lubed it. Sweet as now.

The wheels were next. Stripped and replaced all bearings and seals. New brake rotors and pads front and rear. Then fitted a new set of Michelins and ultra heavy duty tubes. It came with aftermarket radiators which seemed ok, but on close inspection needed a little mod to give safe clearance near the pipe. Quick trim and waterbath tig jod. Sorted. Starting to look like a bike again!
Got a pro to fit the sticker kit for me this week. Can't wait to get them on.

Nearly there! Few jobs to go. Bleed the brakes, new grips, new pegs, refit the bark busters, oil change and air filter. I'll fire it up this week!! :)

Love it when you bring a derilic item home. And turn it into something just for you.
Well done.
