When in Rome?
It's a Winery ffs?

Spew the Spumante?
Sulfite hives bit rash?

Chianti is palatable?
Cheese & crackers?

All in moderation?
Else; a silver pillow?

Incredible; implies some credibility?
Whose to judge, I'm certainly not(?)

This is a ride report…but not an official ride report given it was not a DBT posted ride.

The brief was to plan a small group ride to commemorate Riles 60th birthday that involved motorbikes, some riding with sweat factor, wine and an overnight campout. With the invaluable assistance of Clutchburner, who helped rally a cast of people with great local knowledge and riding ability, the Pyrenees dirt bike winey tour was born.

Friday was a meet and greet as people made their way to the designated camp spot and a few of us managed to get away for a ride in the afternoon to sample the Pyrenees terrain.

Saturday morning, we had a full contingent of 12 riders and we set out for 45km of predominantly fast and furious fire trails which necessitated the avoidance wayward kangaroos and a substantial cow making random dashes across the roadway. A perfect wake up ride. We ended up back at camp to refuel (my TX300 only has legs for 80km) and set out for the afternoon ride.

The ride took in 4 of the famous Pyrenees wineries which were generally connected via level 1 riding tracks. We enjoyed small sample glasses of Shiraz and Rose’ and a pizza for lunch. At one of the wineries, we were treated to a banjo player singing Riles favorite “back to the cars” song, Country Roads Take Me Home. We had a good sing along which was joined by other randoms at the winery.

The afternoon ride was around 95km (fortunately I took some extra fuel with me to make the distance)
Back at camp we were treated to a dinner cooked by Riles and bonfire big enough to please a crematorium foreman.

Sunday, we headed off for a recovery ride which had a bit of everything including gnarly rock climbs, off camber hills and beautifully bermed up twisty tracks. We covered just under 20km.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and definitely something different from the ‘normal’. The Pyrenees is a great place to ride, and I would highly recommend it if you see a ride posted here. you should get on board…. despite it being a circa 2.5hr commute from Melbourne. You will be rewarded with great riding terrain and views.
