Well, what to say...
Yes to all the above!!
In theory: great tracks Cruiser, weather was excellent and traction really good, riders mostly upright and having a good go at everything. (Special mention to young husky250 with too much energy to burn, lifting bike over stuff so fast I was tired watching let alone helping).
In practice: as above, plus a bit of gardening/landscaping. When we really had to bush bash a bit near the creek I thought it was going to be endless faffing, but that section turned out alright. (Will be interesting to see where the locals end up making the track around there.) Lots of pulling reedy shit out of rear hub, plus or minus a spoke(!) Some idiot didn't mark a corner very clearly
. Lucky those two getaways didn't waste much fuel trundling kms down the road(!)
Cruiser's favourite quarry for practicing semi-out-of control descents was a bit of a nasty inclusion, but also a comedic highlight as one bike lay down for some quick contemplation on the steep top such that a large blue machine with uncharacteristically shithouse rear tread came within inches of riding onto a head.
In reality: I have no effing idea how those guys carried fuel containers. Let alone with a pillion! Let alone without having them tied together some how!!? And until I read the above posts I hadn't really thought about riding pillion. Yep, thems boots are heavy. Good call hairy, littlejohn re: the shared footpeg technique. Nor had I really cared about headlights before other than re: banter on rides about getting lost/delayed.
[Did I mention the 57 times I told Cruiser how much I was looking forward to a Parma? In the morning coz I was a bit dusty from footy watching previous nights, again coz I forgot my usual sandwiches, again when we were slightly behind schedule, again when he called to confirm the booking, again when he told 2t4me we were about 30min away, again when he told me kitchen closes at 2, again at the Reefton when I was eating my not-parma-flavoured chips and not-parma-flavoured coke, again when I said wouldn't it be funny if we managed to miss a Parma because kitchen closed for lunch AND dinner ON THE SAME DAY!!!
]
Yes we should do it again (and Cruiser I back you 100% to not have to leave earlier. It'll be smooth sailing 2.0).
Yes you should def come Dusty.
Seriously, there were some beautiful tracks (esp one we descended that would be great to go up too, so looking forward to Cruiser's next choreography...
Thanks all.
If you've read this far then you're ready for about 5% of the time this ride took
PS: if you call Wesburn pub 10min before kitchen closes they'll take your Parma order and have it on a plate 10min later! Parma-crisis averted
